Dear Friends,

As part of our ongoing effort to keep you informed, I wanted to let you know that Waste Management resubmitted its application to the Ventura County Planning Department for the modernization and expansion of the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center on Monday.

The revised application is a follow-up to the original application, which was submitted to the County on April 13 of this year. However, as anticipated, County staff determined that additional information and documents were needed to meet internal requirements as well as comply with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

The updated application provides additional detail regarding specific facilities included in the proposal, as well as the methodology used in calculations and forecasts for traffic counts and landfill life, among other things. The revised application also includes options for handling sewage treatment for employees who will be relocated to the landfill site from the current G.I. Industries hauling yard in Simi Valley.

As I've said before, the revised application is the starting point for the formal public process to review project elements and impacts, as mandated by CEQA. The County will evaluate the updated application and once the application has been deemed complete, an environmental impact report (EIR) will be completed by a neutral, third-party consultant.

Community input is a vital part of the CEQA process and as soon as our application is complete, we will be reaching out to local residents to hear their thoughts on the project. Public meetings will also be conducted by the County as part of the process to determine the scope of the EIR. All of the community comment will become part of the public record. Also, in advance of these meetings, we want to encourage residents and community members to visit our facility and take a tour. Please drop a note to Scott Tignac or call him at (805) 579-7478 to schedule a tour of the facility. Please also visit our website for more information on the project

Sincerely,
