LONGTIME SIMI MAYOR BILL DAVIS JOINS WASTE MANAGEMENT AS A COMMUNITY RELATIONS CONSULTANT

Simi Valley, CA, December 12, 2006 - Longtime Simi Valley Mayor Bill Davis has joined Waste Management as a Community Relations consultant in the company’s Ventura County Market Area, it was announced today.

“I have worked in public service for a long time, so when the opportunity came along to be a part of the Waste Management team, I ran after it,” Davis said. “I know first-hand that Waste Management is an organization that works hard to serve people and make a difference. It is important for the community to know about Waste Management, its operations and the company’s continued commitment to Ventura County.”

A well-known and respected community leader, Davis comes to Waste Management with more than two decades of experience working in Ventura County managing and implementing government and community relations programs in the region. His political career began in 1986 when he was appointed to Simi Valley City Council to complete the remaining two years of a four-year term. He was officially elected to the City Council in 1988, where he served as Mayor Pro Tem for several terms before serving as mayor from 1998 to 2004.

“Bill Davis is an immensely talented community leader who brings a great deal of enthusiasm, creativity and knowledge to our organization,” said Michael E. Smith, Waste Management Market Area Manager. “We are extremely pleased to have him join us as a community relations consultant.”

Davis will help Waste Management to develop and implement an outreach plan to advise the company on community issues while engaging stakeholders and informing local residents about Waste Management’s green energy and recycling capabilities and plans to extend the life of the landfill. He will also represent Waste Management at community events and meetings to foster partnerships with the community as part of the planning for improvements to the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center.

“The 18 years Bill Davis spent on the city council and his public involvement with the community will be an asset to Waste Management. His background in government and community relations in Ventura County is ideal for helping Waste Management maintain strong relationships in the community,” concluded Smith.
