SIMI VALLEY RESIDENTS INVITED TO FREE DAY AT SIMI VALLEY LANDFILL AND RECYCLING CENTER
The fall season is the right time for taking unwanted items to the landfill

Simi Valley, CA, October 15, 2008 - Simi Valley residents are invited to drop off their trash, green waste and bulky items free of charge at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center on Sunday, October 19 from 10 am to 4 pm, the last round of free events for 2008.

Residents can bring non-hazardous, residential trash and green waste items. Certain items, including televisions, electronics, and household hazardous waste will not be accepted. Please visit our website for a full list of non-acceptable items and information on where these items can be properly disposed.

Just this past May, the Simi Free Residential Day yielded more than 1,000 tons of trash, green waste, dirt and concrete. WM recycled 139 tons of greenwaste and 47 tons of construction and demolition materials from Simi Valley residents.

“The fall season is a great time for residents to re-commit to taking care of their home environment and take advantage of the free residential day,” said Mike Smith, Market Area General Manager for WM of Ventura County. “We are proud to provide our customers with a safe and convenient location to dispose of unwanted items, while continuing our efforts to help reduce illegal dumping activity in Ventura County.”

The free day is a popular event with residents and to help minimize delays, please follow these guidelines:

  • Be ready with valid identification to show proof of residency to cashier.
  • All loads must be tarped pursuant to California State Law.
  • All loads are subject to inspection.
  • All commercial vehicles are subject to applicable rates unless prior arrangements have been made.

To encourage recycling efforts and reduce the amount of waste entering the landfill, there will be designated areas and containers for recycling. There also will be separate unloading areas for concrete, asphalt, green waste and construction and demolition waste. In addition, containers will be available to drop-off and recycle metal items, paper and cardboard.

The Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center is located at 2801 Madera Road in Simi Valley. If you have any additional questions, please call at (805) 579-7267 or visit our website.
