Simi Valley, CA, September 19, 2008 -
On Saturday, Sept. 27th, local residents and their dogs will take over the Rancho Simi Community Park to raise money for Animal Rescue Volunteers at the third annual Wag N’ Walk. Waste Management is proud to be a corporate sponsor of this event for the second year in a row.
More than 300 participants and their canine friends will walk a three-mile path that starts at Rancho Simi Community Park at the corner of Royal Avenue and Erringer Road. The goal this year is to raise at least $30,000, which will be used to benefit homeless animals in the greater Simi Valley Community.
“Animal Rescue Volunteers raises its entire budget through donations and the Wag N’ Walk event is a critical source of funding for us each year,” said Nancy McChesney of ARV. “We’re very appreciative of Waste Management’s continued support of our efforts to rescue abandoned and abused animals in Simi Valley and surrounding communities.”
Animal Rescue Volunteers has rescued over 5,000 dogs, cats and horses since 1994. ARV provides food, care and foster homes for the animals until they are adopted. Adoptions are held every Saturday at PetSmart in Simi Valley.
“Animal Rescue Volunteers does a great job at rescuing pets in Simi Valley and surrounding communities. We are proud to support their good work,” said Mike Smith, Waste Management's Market Area General Manager for Ventura County.
In addition to the walk, there will be a demonstration by the Search Dog Foundation. The Search Dog Foundation trains rescue dogs to be deployed in search and rescue operations. Search dogs trained by the Search Dog Foundation were recently deployed in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. Search Dogs are regularly trained at Waste Management facilities.
There will also be a doggie costume contest and a dog adoption booth. Humans interested in participating in the walk must pre-register for themselves and their canine companions at www.arvsimi.org. Wag N’ Walk walkers who raise $100 or more in sponsorship dollars qualify for a Wag N’ Walk goodie bag and must pre-register on-line by September 22nd to guarantee availability of their goodie bag.
