The Sheriff’s Department Family Helping One of Its Own

Location: The residence of Deputy David Bonebright, Simi Valley, Ca.
Date & Time: Aug. 26, 2006 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

At least 50 volunteers from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, neighboring law enforcement agencies, members of the business community, and families will participate in a yard makeover at the home of Deputy David Bonebright this Saturday.

The volunteers will be busy cutting down trees and shrubs, mowing and trimming the yard to lift the spirits of the Bonebrights and help them with some much needed yard maintenance.

Thanks to the generosity of businesses such as Dave’s Flying Tamales, GI Rubbish, Enhanced Landscape Management, Rex White Productions, and the Ventura County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, a small army of motivated volunteers will work to put smiles on the faces of David and his family.

The Bonebrights have been very busy taking care of their 16-month-old daughter Ashlyn, who was born three months premature in March of 2005. Ashlyn’s condition continues to improve, but she remains dependant on a ventilator and supplemental oxygen to help her breathe. She has fought several lung infections in the past year, and still struggles to breathe. She is blind and depends on in-home nursing care 16 hours per day.

“The support for the Bonebrights by the members of this department and the community has been beyond expectation,” said Capt. Randy Pentis, who oversees operations at the Thousand Oaks Police Department, where Deputy Bonebright is assigned to patrol. “This is all about helping the family at a time when they shouldn’t have to worry about such things as working in their yard. Their focus is right where it needs to be…on Ashlyn,” Pentis said.

This has been a tremendous opportunity for members of the community to help a law enforcement professional who continues to help others while patrolling the streets of Thousand Oaks. While Ashlyn’s future is uncertain, one thing is certain: her long-term care puts a huge financial burden on David and Christine Bonebright. This is one event of many to assist the Bonebright family in any way possible. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department will continue to support efforts to help the Bonebrights and other members of the department in times of need.

Anyone who wishes to contribute financially to help Ashlyn with her long road to recovery can send tax deductible donations by check made out to “The Ashlyn Bonebright Fund Acct.# 1032460” directly to:
