Press Release
WASTE MANAGEMENT LAUNCHES NEW LAWN MOWER RECYCLING PROGRAM
Simi Valley, June 4, 2009 -
The Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center and Ventura County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) teamed up to make it easier for residents of Simi Valley, Thousands Oaks, or Moorpark to recycle gas-powered lawnmowers to qualify for huge discounts on environmentally friendly electric mowers.
The APCD Pollution Control District voucher program offers $129 off the price of a standard corded electric mower or $200 off the price of a cordless electric mower at the Lowe’s in Ventura or Simi Valley or at the online vendor, Neuton. Residents can bring gasoline lawn mowers to the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center and will be given a receipt to attach to the voucher application form, which must be submitted to the APCD office in Ventura.
“Waste Management is proud to be partner with Ventura County APCD and continue the recycling circle. This program saves consumers over fifty percent off a new electric lawn mower, which is a significant cost-savings”, said Mike Smith, Director of Operations for Waste Management of Ventura County.
All mowers must be drained of any oil and gasoline. Be sure to participate in local household hazardous waste events to properly dispose of these fluids. For a complete list of drop-off locations near you, please visit the County of Ventura’s website at http://www.wasteless.org/5_5HHWCollect.html.
“This is a great opportunity for Ventura County residents to make a green difference in their community. Trading in your gas-powered lawn mowers can dramatically help to reduce carbon emissions around your home and in your neighborhood,” said Smith.
The lawn mower trade in program is funded by the Clean Air Fund, Ventura County Community Foundation (VCCF) and the Air Resources Board. Customer pays sales tax. Vouchers limited to one per household. Call (805) 645-1408 for more information about the Lawn Mower Program or visit http://www.vcapcd.org/LawnMower_EN.htm.
