OVER 450 BOY SCOUTS TO CAMP OUT AT WASTE MANAGEMENT
Annual Ventura County Council Camporee Will Take Place April 18-19

Simi Valley, CA, April 14, 2008 - On April 18, the land surrounding Waste Management's Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center will be taken over by 450 Boys Scouts for the annual Ventura County Council Camporee.

The Camporee is a local version of the national jamboree that occurs every year. This year's theme is "Service to Others" and Boy Scouts will camp out and participate in various competitions over the course of the weekend, including fire safety, knot tying and a first aid challenge.

"This weekend is always a fun event for the Boy Scouts as well as the employees of Waste Management who enjoy helping to make sure everything unfolds smoothly over the course of the weekend," said WM Market Area General Manager Mike Smith. "Waste Management is proud to participate in the event and welcome the Boy Scouts and their families."

Special guests at the event will include Simi Valley Mayor Pro-Tem Michelle Foster and Ventura County Supervisor Peter Foy. Additionally, there will be a three-helicopter flyovers by Ventura County Fire, LA County Fire and LAPD, and the traditional Parade of Flags will help kick off the festivities. Approximately 150 parents and volunteer staff will be in attendance to oversee the activities throughout the weekend.

Boy Scouts of America will be honoring the weekend's event in memory of Mike Sellah. A past Boy Scout Troop Leader 633, Mr. Sellah was a LAPD Detective and was very involved in the organization.

"We are proud to honor a fellow Boy Scout," said Ron Burns, Scoutmaster Troop 649. A special presentation will be made to Mrs. Sellah and their two children.

Waste Management provides Ventura County with recycling, trash hauling and solid waste disposal through G.I. Industries and the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center. The SVLRC provides approximately 60% of Ventura County's daily refuse disposal needs. The company operates a "green power" program at the site that generates enough power for 2,500 homes, and clean-burning LNG powers 38 of its trucks.
