Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center’s Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of its Construction and Demolition Facility
Over 40,000 Tons of Materials Recycled Over Last 12 Months
Simi Valley, CA, March 17, 2009 -
Waste Management’s Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center today announced the one-year anniversary of its construction and demolition (C&D) recycling facility, located at the Landfill site just north of Highway 118.
After a full year of operation, the facility has recycled over 40,317 tons of materials and sent them for beneficial re-use.
“WM is the industry leader in providing environmental solutions to businesses and residents and our C&D facility provides our customers the opportunity to expand their recycling efforts,” said Scott Tignac, District Landfill Manager.
In Ventura County, many cities require that construction projects divert a minimum of 60% of their waste.
“We are committed to helping residents, contractors and, in turn, local governments meet - and exceed - all C&D recycling requirements,” said Lisa Hemenway, WM’s Community Relations Manager.
The facility, located at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center, accepts wood, concrete, dirt, drywall, metal, cardboard, plastic, roofing materials, carpet, appliances and tile. These materials are sorted onsite and transported to regional facilities to find a "second life" as new products.
WM's facility is located at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center at 2801 Madera Road, just north of the 118 Freeway. The facility accepts co-mingled C&D waste from the public as well as private contractors.
