THE GIFT THAT KEEPS GIVING Waste Management to offer free recycled Christmas trees to Ventura County Residents
Simi Valley, January 11, 2010 - Start the New Year off right by recycling a resource extremely precious to our Earth! Through January, the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center (SVLRC) will be accepting unwanted live Christmas trees for recycling.
Residents who enjoyed having a live Christmas tree for the holidays but are unable to re-plant them are welcome to donate these trees so that other residents may continue to enjoy them for years to come.
"Every year, so many Christmas trees are cut down for only a few weeks worth of enjoyment," said Lisa Hemenway, Community Relations Manager for Waste Management. "In order to help keep this valuable tradition alive, we encourage our residents to not only recycle their Christmas trees, but also to take it a step further and re-plant them!"
Waste Management has offered a Christmas Tree Recycling Program for over 30 years, but this is the first initiative to facilitate the re-planting of live Christmas trees.
All trees must be live and ready for replanting. Residents interested in donating the unwanted live Christmas tree, please contact Lisa Hemenway at (805) 581-1746 or visit our website at http:///www.keepingventuracountyclean.com.
Waste Management provides Ventura County with recycling, trash hauling and solid waste disposal through G.I. Industries and the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center. Waste Management has owned and operated G.I. Industries since 1998 and the SVLRC site since 1983 and employs more than 230 people in Ventura County. The SVLRC provides approximately 60% of Ventura County's daily refuse disposal needs. The company operates a "green power" program at the site that generates enough power for 2,500 homes, and clean-burning LNG powers 38 of its trucks. Waste Management is a significant contributor to area community groups. For more information visit our website www.keepingventuracountyclean.com. # # #
