Freecycle™ and Waste Management Work Together
Freecycle is a grassroots community movement and nonprofit
organization, based on the web [hosted by Yahoo!], and made
up of individual city groups that promote waste reuse among
their members. Members have the opportunity to give and
get great things for free, in an effort to keep unnecessary
waste out of landfills. Each group is run by a local volunteer
moderator and membership to join is free.
Millions are Already Involved
Over 4,200 community groups; more than 5 million
individual users.
It’s Easy to Become a Member
Membership in Freecycle is free and open to all communities
and all members that want to participate. To sign up for a
Freecycle Yahoo! group, interested users simply need to find the
appropriate region on the www.freecycle.org website.
Give it Away
When you want to find a new home for something — whether
it’s a chair, a fax machine, piano, or an old door — you simply
send an e-mail offering it to members of your Freecycle group.
Find Something for You
If you are looking to acquire something yourself, simply
respond to a member’s offer, and you just might get it. After
that, it’s up to the giver to decide who receives the gift and
to set up a pickup time for passing on the treasure. Freecycle
encourages members to select local charitable groups
whenever possible.
Waste Management Sponsors Freecycle
As the first-ever, founding corporate sponsor, Waste
Management provides financial assistance to the organization
to enhance its online capabilities. The sponsorship adds
functionality to the Freecycle website, enhances online
security and improves the overall Freecycle experience for
users. WM also encourages its customers to join the Freecycle
network.
