Dear Friends:
On behalf of everyone at Waste Management and the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center, thank you for helping to make our Earth Day Festival and Open House a successful event! Last Saturday, despite the heat and wind, we were so glad to welcome more than 500 residents to the landfill, with many of you taking tours and mingling with neighbors over music and refreshments. We also had a lot of young takers for the children's activities, which included face painting, making crafts with reclaimed, recyclable materials and planting tomato seedlings.
We especially want to thank the Simi Valley Girl Scouts from Troop 878 who demonstrated how to properly plant a tree and handed out close to 150 free trees to visitors. Other highlights of the day included the falcon and bird demonstrations — including a vulture with a 9-foot wingspan! We also held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Butterfly Habitat at the SVLRC, complete with releasing live butterflies!
We enjoyed seeing so many of you on Saturday and hope that you had as much fun as we did. If you have any questions, or didn't get a chance to take our landfill tour and want to stop by to take a look, please don't hesitate to contact Scott Tignac at 805-579-7478.
Best,
Mike Smith
