• Our renewable energy projects create enough energy to power nearly 1 million homes and save the equivalent of more than 13 million barrels of oil per year.

  • The Simi Landfill and Recycling Center alone powers the equivalent of 2,500 homes each day with two landfill gas-to-energy generators using methane gas.

  • WM's North American operations recycled enough paper and carboard in one year to save 41 million trees.

  • In California, we operate the largest fleet of clean natural gas collection vehicles and have reduced air emissions by 247 tons.

  • ‘Tis the Season to Recycle

This year, having a greener holiday season takes on new meaning. Reducing waste can also save money. Think about creating wrapping paper from recycled materials, like maps, comic strips, or colorful shopping bags. Leaves, pine cones, stocking stuffers or fabric scraps can replace ribbons.

Maybe this is the year that you finally go electronic on your holiday cards — e-cards can be fun and moving, and certainly an electronic Christmas letter is easier to share and to file away than the printed kind. You might also want to look at buying items such as drinks for your holiday parties in bulk instead of in individual servings. And lastly, a little bit of dishwashing can save you a lot of money if you turn to reusable plates and glasses for your entertaining.

America Recycles Day was on November 15, but if you missed it, we encourage you to take the America Recycles Day (ARD) pledge to show your commitment to recycling. Over the past 11 years since ARD was established, residents in every single state have participated in the campaign and pledged to increase their recycling habits at home and work.
