There is a lot to share as we begin to wrap up the year. Last month, we celebrated America Recycles Day and encouraged local residents to take a recycling pledge. Now, as you prepare for the holiday season, we urge you to think about the ways you can make this time of year a little bit greener.
One way you can help is by recycling your Christmas tree after the holidays. Beginning December 26 through January 9, trees will be picked up on your regular scheduled service day — just cut them in half and put them in your green waste container. Please make sure to remove all stands, ornaments and tinsel. From December 26 through January 16, Christmas trees can also be dropped off for free at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center between 7am and 4pm Monday through Saturday.
Also, don’t forget that trash and recycling services will be delayed one day due to the Christmas and New Year’s holiday. If your regular service day is scheduled for Friday, then your service day will be on Saturday instead.
Speaking of recycling, we were amazed by the number of residents who turned out for our annual fall Free Residential Days. We collected close to 1,500 tons of materials and were able to recycle 33 percent of it. Thank you for coming out and be sure to check our website for the 2009 dates.
There are many employees who help to keep our operations running smoothly and safely. Recently our maintenance team was recognized for their efforts nationally within Waste Management for their dedication to keeping our equipment — including our truck fleet of 150 vehicles — in top shape.
From our families to yours, happy holidays!
Best,
Michael E. Smith
