Clean diesel technology will eliminate air pollution from 90 percent – or about 13 million – of today's trucks and buses.

The Simi Landfill & Recycling Center powers 2,500 homes each day with two landfill gas-to-energy generators using methane gas.

Clean diesel engines and fuels will prevent nearly 8,300 premature deaths, along with tens of thousands of cases of bronchitis, asthma and other respiratory ailments.

Throughout the U.S., particulate matter will be reduced by 250,000 tons, and NOx by 4 million tons every year.

In California alone, particulate matter will be reduced by 110,000 tons, and NOx by 2.6 million tons every year.

A Birthday Surprise for One Young Customer

Matthew Johnson, a 5-year-old Simi Valley resident, loves to watch the Waste Management garbage trucks rumble down the street while making their weekly pickup. This past Halloween, Matthew even dressed up as a trash collector with a garbage truck – a costume his mom constructed using a big box, ribbon spools, paint and a glue gun. Matthew’s dad, Tim Johnson, says that his transformation into a trash collector was no surprise.

“Matthew has a strong affinity for big trucks – garbage trucks in particular. He loves to watch your drivers when they pick up at our house, and they always take a moment to wave and smile to him. It makes his day,” Tim said.

Matthew just celebrated his 5th birthday on December 8th, and to help make it a fun and joyful occasion, Waste Management of Simi Valley brought a garbage truck to the party. Matthew and his friends were able to climb on board to check out all the gadgets inside the truck and talk with the driver about what it’s like being a trash collector.

Matthew has already been helping his dad take the trashcans to the curb at his house every Sunday evening. He’s even learning to balance the cans so that he can roll them down the driveway by himself.
