Clean diesel technology will eliminate air pollution from 90 percent – or about 13 million – of today's trucks and buses.
The Simi Landfill & Recycling Center powers 2,500 homes each day with two landfill gas-to-energy generators using methane gas.
Clean diesel engines and fuels will prevent nearly 8,300 premature deaths, along with tens of thousands of cases of bronchitis, asthma and other respiratory ailments.
Throughout the U.S., particulate matter will be reduced by 250,000 tons, and NOx by 4 million tons every year.
In California alone, particulate matter will be reduced by 110,000 tons, and NOx by 2.6 million tons every year.

Dear Friends,
The holiday season is always our busiest – Americans throw away 25% more trash between Thanksgiving and New Years than during the rest of the year. As always, we urge you to toss responsibly: Recycle as much as possible and think about using as many reusable goods as you can. We are proud sponsors of Freecycle.org, an international grassroots organization that puts people who have items to give away in touch with people who would like those items. It‘s the ultimate “White Elephant” party.
As we reflect upon the past year, we have much to be proud of. Our employee-community engagement with the communities we serve is stronger than ever. In April, we gathered to participate in the Arroyo clean-up day, and we hosted the Ventura County Boy Scout’s “Camporee” on the Simi Valley Landfill’s property, which brought in over 1,000 scouts. In September, we provided a helping hand at Special Kids Day. In October, we were proud to announce our partnership with Casa Pacifica to help ensure that all children receive the best chance at life.

Christmas Tree Recycling
Recycle your Christmas tree this holiday season! Trees will be picked up on your regularly scheduled service day between December 26, 2006 and January 6, 2007. Simply cut your tree in half and place it in your greenwaste container! Please remove all stands, ornaments and tinsel. And remember that we will not take flocked trees or trees that have been treated with fire retardants. Trees can also be dropped off at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center free of charge. For more information about our Christmas tree recycling program, please call 805-522-9400 for GI Rubbish or 805-579-7267 for the Simi Valley Landfill.
A Birthday Surprise for One Young Customer
Matthew Johnson, a 5-year-old Simi Valley resident, loves to watch the Waste Management garbage trucks rumble down the street while making their weekly pickup. This past Halloween, Matthew even dressed up as a trash collector with a garbage truck – a costume his mom constructed using a big box, ribbon spools, paint and a glue gun. Matthew’s dad, Tim Johnson, says that his transformation into a trash collector was no surprise.
