Tapo Canyon Park to Reopen - Thanks to Waste Management and Supervisor Mikels

Responding to the devastation left behind by the fires and floods that closed Tapo Canyon Park, Waste Management is teaming with County Supervisor Judy Mikels to adopt the Park.

For years Tapo Canyon Regional Park provided a beautiful setting in the Santa Susana Mountains for families to enjoy. The park offered a picnic area; a playground, an equestrian arena and a large undeveloped youth group camping area. Unfortunately, a few years ago heavy rainstorms and the resulting swollen creeks created mudslides that necessitated the closure of this wonderful park. The park suffered extensive damage and, at present, is not safe for recreational use. But Supervisor Mikels and Waste Management have plans to change all that

Ventura County Supervisor Judy Mikels and a few Waste Management managers were attending a local event when the issue of the long closed Tapo Canyon Park came up. The Supervisor suggested that Waste Management “Adopt-A-Park”. We decided immediately that this was something that Waste Management should be involved with. The first phase of the cleanup will involve removing tons of mud and debris from the park. After the park is clean and re-opened to the public, we will work together to find local companies to sponsor efforts to update and remodel the park and its facilities.

As part of our commitment to improving Simi Valley, a community we serve and where many of our employees live, Waste Management is entering into an agreement with the County of Ventura to clean up and reopen Tapo Canyon Park at no cost to Ventura County. We are pleased to work with Supervisor Judy Mikels on this project that touches so many residents in Ventura County.

May you, your family and loved ones have a joyous holiday season and a healthy and prosperous new year.

All the best,

Michael E. Smith
