Landfill produces Electricity for up to 2,500 Homes

At Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center, we have been using Landfill Gas-to-Energy to generate clean, reliable energy since 2004. We are always seeking ways to balance our need for new energy sources with our desire to protect the environment around us, which is why the Gas-to-Energy project was designed to utilize a traditionally wasted resource.

The gas-to-energy facility generates electricity that significantly lowers air emissions and is one of the largest and cleanest burning facilities of its kind in the world. As the landfill fills, the amount of available methane will increase, increasing the potential for more green power. In fact, we project that in the near future, WM will generate power for between 5,000 to 7,000 homes per day – nearly double what we provide power to today.
