Waste Management Announces Release
of Environmental Review Document

County of Ventura Report Now Available for the
Proposed Modernization and Landfill Expansion at Simi Valley

Simi Valley, Calif., — Waste Management announces the Ventura County Planning Division’s release of the draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center’s Modernization and Expansion Project. Required by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the EIR includes information and complete analysis of any potential impacts related to the proposed project.

“We are very pleased to have this document released and available to the public for review and comment. Keeping the process transparent and communicating to the community about our plans has always been very important to us,” said Mike Smith, director of operations for Waste Management.

The community and responsible trustee public agencies have 45 days to review and provide comments to the county. The comment period closes on November 11, 2009.

“Landfills, recycling centers, and green energy projects are all critical parts of Southern California’s infrastructure,” said Smith. “The work we do at WM supports job creation and a healthy economy. Because everybody generates about 4.5 pounds of trash per day, we all need to be involved in the discussion around this important environmental issue.”

The Modernization and Expansion project includes many benefits to the community, including maintaining over 275 local jobs, contributing to the local economy, expanding recycling capabilities and creating open space for wildlife habitat conservation.
