Clean diesel technology will eliminate air pollution from 90 percent - or about 13 million – of today's trucks and buses.
The Simi Landfill & Recycling Center powers 2,500 homes each day with two landfill gas-to-energy generators using methane gas.
Clean diesel engines and fuels will prevent nearly 8,300 premature deaths, along with tens of thousands of cases of bronchitis, asthma and other respiratory ailments.
Throughout the U.S., particulate matter will be reduced by 250,000 tons, and NOx by 4 million tons every year.
In California alone, particulate matter will be reduced by 110,000 tons, and NOx by 2.6 million tons every year.

Meet Our Team of Burros
One way we ensure we are fulfilling the needs and expectations of our customers is by tailoring service offerings to regions with special service requirements. Some places where this is evident is in parts of Malibu and the County canyon areas, where WM drivers utilize special smaller trucks, nicknamed burros, or donkeys, because they can easily climb hills and navigate narrow roads.
These burros are almost a quarter of the weight and half as long as the company’s standard trucks and can more easily navigate the dirt roads and tight curves of our canyon hillsides. These trucks are able to provide the curbside service residents expect in an efficient and safe manner. The burros are used in conjunction with small commercial vehicles called “stinger trucks,” which have a cab attached to a device to get dumpsters from tight areas and empty into a larger truck.
"We continually evaluate our operations to make sure we're providing service to our customers in the best, most efficient and safest way possible," said Mike Smith, Vice President and General Manager of Waste Management. "We know that the neighborhoods of Malibu and Topanga are configured differently than other regions we serve and it's important that we utilize equipment tailored to meet the needs of the area. The smaller trucks can get in and out of the area more quickly and safely, and still provide the automated curbside service our customers expect."
