Freecycle Network In Partnership with WM
Waste Management (WM) and Freecycle have joined forces in the first-ever corporate sponsorship for Freecycle. WM's sponsorship will help to expand the Freecycle network and promote personal giving with employees and customers alike. The Freecycle Network brings home the point that one person's trash is another's treasure.
Freecycle is a grass-roots movement that began in Arizona in 2003, and has spread around the world. Using the Internet, network members give away and get items for free in their own communities. The goal is to reduce waste and save items from needlessly going to landfills. Items can be given to local charitable groups or individuals, and range from appliances to furniture to sports and leisure equipment - the only rule is that all items posted be free, legal and appropriate for any age group.
A local volunteer moderator runs each Freecycle group. There are many local groups in Ventura County, but anyone can begin a new Freecycle group in an area that doesn't already have one. For step-by-step instructions about how to start a local Freecycle group, go to www.freecycle.org.
Freecycle is a very practical network that brings together people who have things to give away together with people who need specific items. Freecycle provides a wonderful opportunity to use Internet technology to help the environment. Ultimately we hope there will be fewer reusable items going to landfills. Providing this sponsorship is WM's way of thinking green.
WM's corporate sponsorship with the Freecycle Network includes helping Freecycle improve its web site and encouraging the reuse of items to its 52,000 employees and 21 million customers throughout North America through bill inserts, educational outreach and other promotional efforts.
Deron Beal, the founder and Executive Director of The Freecycle network, said "I am so thankful that Waste Management saw our needs and offered to help us in these vital ways. -They're offering us a unique opportunity to plan for and manage our future growth, to improve the freecycle experience".
Logon to www.freecycle.org and join an existing group, or start one, in your community. Help your family and your neighbors to live more simply by de-cluttering and sharing your abundance, and also by seeing what free options are out there before you open your wallet and buy more stuff.
