SIMI VALLEY LANDFILL & RECYCLING CENTER
Modernization and Expansion Project Approved!

Dear Friends,

Thank you! Somehow, saying thank you just does not seem sufficient, but it really says it all.

As you may have heard, our plans to modernize and expand the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center (SVLRC) took another step forward yesterday when the Ventura County Board of Supervisors approved Waste Management's modernization proposal with two 5-0 votes. I can never convey how much your support for our project has meant to our company, our employees and me. Over the last six years, we held community meetings, hosted landfill tours, and participated in an unprecedented public process whereas your valuable community input helped make this an outstanding project. The project approved yesterday offers a long-term solution to our county's waste and recycling needs as well as our energy independence. We look forward to implementing the improvements to our operations.

With your support and input, the approved Modernization and Expansion Project reflects our demonstrated interest in the environment while creating the maximum benefit for Simi Valley, local cities, county and our company. Again, I want to offer sincere thanks for your support over the years and I look forward to a continued successful relationship with each of you. This incredible project would not have been possible without your help. I know that I speak for the entire Waste Management team when I say that we will strive to continue to meet and often exceed the high expectations you deserve. Thank you again for allowing us to provide you with recycling and refuse service for the past 40 years.

Sincerely,

Mike Smith
Director of Operations

Waste Management's Modernization and Expansion project for the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center includes many benefits to the community, including expanding recycling capabilities and creating open space for wildlife habitat conservation.

The Simi Landfill and Recycling Center alone powers the equivalent of 2,500 homes each day with two landfill gas-to-energy generators using methane gas
