Letter from Scott Tignac and Mike Smith

It has always been a point of pride to both of us that Waste Management is a good community member. It is particularly important to us, because we are both longtime local residents. Scott has lived in Simi Valley for 34 years, and even worked as a ranch hand on lands around the Landfill. Mike has lived in Ventura County for 40 years, and spent 30 years working in the waste management business.

Over the last few months, Waste Management has demonstrated its commitment to the community again and again. In February, you might have caught our CEO, David Steiner on The Tonight Show, after he came to collect Jay Leno's celebrity Harley Davidson. WM made the winning $800,100 bid for the motorcycle, with all proceeds going to aid in Tsunami relief efforts. WM is offering additional relief aid by matching individual employee contributions to the American Red Cross up to an aggregate maximum of $150,000.

On the local front, we continue to support ongoing local community efforts as well and in this edition of our email newsletter you can read more about our support of Meals on Wheels.

With this e-mail, we want to introduce you to our dynamic new web site, www.KeepingVenturaCountyclean.com. Our new site has plenty of information, not only about the operations of the landfill, but also about the efforts we take to keep the landfill environmentally safe and up to date. We also have a kids' page, loaded with environmental games and puzzles. Keep watching the site, as we will continue to populate it with new information about Simi Valley Landfill & Recycling Center and its role in the community.

Best wishes,

Scott Tignac
District Manager

Mike Smith
Market Area Manager
