Ventura County Planning Commission Hearing

The Planning Commission will review and proceed to take a position on the final Environmental Impact Report(EIR).


The project provides many benefits to the community:
  • Adds 150 new permanent good paying jobs, with benefits, for decades to come
  • Creates additional jobs including 100 construction jobs over four years
  • Improves Recycling options and increases environmentally-friendly programs
  • Builds a convenient Environmental Collection Center for unwanted items, including, batteries, paint, oil, and electronic waste
  • Reduces traffic on the Madera Corridor by moving local trucking operations to landfill
  • Creates over 500 acres of open space and wildlife habitats
  • Improves recycling options and increases environmentally-friendly programs
  • Increases production of enough green energy - enough to power 6,250 homes
  • Establishes one of the first green building LEED facilities at a landfill in the county by using recycled and sustainable building materials, energy-efficient lighting, green energy programs and recycled water
  • Provides charitable contributions including annual sponsorships, service donations and employee volunteer support

Waste Management's Modernization and Expansion project for the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center includes many benefits to the community, including expanding recycling capabilities and creating open space for wildlife habitat conservation.

The Simi Landfill and Recycling Center alone powers the equivalent of 2,500 homes each day with two landfill gas-to-energy generators using methane gas.
