• Our renewable energy projects create enough energy to power nearly 1 million homes and save the equivalent of more than 14 million barrels of oil per year.

  • The Simi Landfill and Recycling Center alone powers the equivalent of 2,500 homes each day with two landfill gas-to-energy generators using methane gas.

  • WM’s North American operations recycled enough paper in one year to save 41 million trees.

  • In California, we operate the largest fleet of clean natural gas collection vehicles and have reduced air emissions by 247 tons.

  • Simi Valley Salutes Waste Management Community Involvement

Waste Management of Simi Valley and G.I. Industries and its employees are involved in so many different community organizations that it’s often hard to keep track of what they’re up to. Recently, Boys and Girls Club of Simi Valley and the Simi Valley Police Foundation recognized the efforts of our company and employees.

The Boys and Girls Club named Waste Management its Business of the Year at its annual recognition luncheon and the Police Foundation gave its Presidents Award to Mike Smith, WM Market Area Manager.

The Boys and Girls Club singled out Waste Management after reviewing its support – in terms of volunteer time and monetary donations - in 2006.

As District Manager Scott Tignac, a member of the Club’s Board of Directors for the past three years, can tell you, the Club provides valuable programs for children from ages 6 to 17. It works with over 400 kids a day and 10,000 kids in a single year. As a result of WM’s support, the organization has been able to serve more children and open up additional on-site programs, including a recent one at a local elementary school.

In addition, the Simi Valley Police Foundation honored WM’s Mike Smith with its Presidents Award. The award is given to a member of the Foundation’s board of directors who has helped the organization with its goal of maintaining a safe community through citizen participation. Mike has been on the Board for four years now and speaks highly of the Foundation’s efforts to support various police programs – such as the police canine (K9) replacement program – that do not receive funding from the annual police budget.

Waste Management is dedicated to serving Simi Valley both on the job and in the community and we pride ourselves on having employees who go the extra mile. We’re especially proud of these awards and the dedication all of our employees have shown in their volunteer work.
