Top Shop

We would like to congratulate Mel Pedroso, Maintenance Manager for the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center (SVLRC), as the 2005 recipient of the Top Shop Award for Waste Management. This award is given every year to four landfill and transfer station maintenance shops operated by Waste Management across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

The award is in recognition of extraordinary accomplishment in the field of maintenance. This is the second time in the last four years that Mel has won this award. Mel was recognized for the site’s achievement at a special dinner with Waste Management’s CEO, David Steiner and before 1,500 Waste Management managers at Waste Management’s Summit Awards.

The Top Shop Award is given to those maintenance facilities that excel in all levels of performance. This not only means that Mel and his shop are responsible for repairing equipment, but for ongoing preventative maintenance in a timely manner to ensure that the heavy equipment does not have a catastrophic break down. In addition, Mel is responsible for maintaining inventory of spare parts, scheduling down time for major repairs, and fueling of the equipment. Mel's dedication to his job ensures that all equipment is ready to run when the landfill opens for business every morning.

Mel has been with SVLRC for 19 years. Scott Tignac, District Manager of the SVLRC stated, “ Mel and his team have a high level of commitment to ensuring that the fleet here operates safely and reliably.”

Again, congratulations to Mel and his shop on a job well done.
