Arroyo Clean-up

Join us on Saturday, April 29, 2006, for another chance to make a visible, positive impact on the health of our community.

The extremely successful "Arroyo Clean-up," whose past participants included elected officials, neighborhood council members, local businesses, and concerned community members, has had a great impact on our community. Last year, nearly six tons of debris were removed from the Arroyo - along with some sofas and even a kitchen sink!

The Arroyo Cleanup effort is an excellent way for citizens to get involved in protecting the environment. The event also brings together many groups and organizations that are interested in improving our community. Debris in the Arroyo is dangerous to humans and animals, causes economic impacts, and is unsightly. To some wildlife, trash can look like a meal.

Last year this event had over one hundred and fifty volunteers who cleaned a section of the Arroyo near Sequoia. This year's event will take place at Madera Road and Arroyo Simi, and volunteers will fan out in both directions some working towards First Street while others work west.

Waste Management/G.I. Industries will provide the dumpsters and wave disposal costs. In addition, teams of WM employees will be on hand to participate with the cleanup, and will provide a free barbeque lunch to all participants at the event.

Interested volunteers may contact Emily Habib at (805) 583-6756 or Emily.Habib@simivalley.org for more information.
