Arroyo Clean-up

Join us on Saturday, April 29, 2006, for another chance to make a visible, positive impact on the health of our community. The extremely successful "Arroyo Clean-up," whose past participants included elected officials, neighborhood council members, local businesses, and concerned community members, has had a great impact on our community. Universal Waste

Residents of eastern Ventura County looking for alternatives for disposing of household “universal waste” such as batteries, old cell phones or fluorescent light tubes have a number of local options.

As of February 9, all Californians must dispose of items deemed “universal waste” by the California Department of Toxic Substance Control (DTSC) at designated recycling centers or household hazardous waste collection centers. Products like these, which have low levels of hazardous metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium and chromium, can potentially contaminate soil and groundwater, so they cannot be disposed of in the trash. We would like to congratulate Mel Pedroso, Maintenance Manager for the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center (SVLRC), as the 2005 recipient of the Top Shop Award for Waste Management. This award is given every year to four landfill and transfer station maintenance shops operated by Waste Management across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. READ MORE >
