Ventura County Star
Ex-mayor Hired as Consultant by Waste Management
By Star staff
Former Simi Valley Mayor Bill Davis was hired recently as a community relations consultant by Waste Management, which is working to expand the Simi Valley Landfill.
Davis will help the company develop an outreach plan to advise the company on community issues, while also serving as a representative of Waste Management at community events and meetings.
Davis, who served on the Simi Valley City Council for 18 years, also will promote Waste Management's plans to expand the landfill, and its green energy and recycling capabilities.
Davis was appointed to the City Council in 1986 to complete a two-year term. He was elected to his first full term as a council member in 1988. He was then elected mayor in 1998 and served until 2004.
Waste Management is the largest operator of landfills in the country.
Managers are seeking to double the size of the Simi Valley Landfill to about 400 acres. A expansion proposal has not yet been filed with the county.
Waste Management officials believe that the landfill will be full by 2025 unless it is expanded.
