WASTE MANAGEMENT INVITES VENTURA COUNTY RESIDENTS TO EARTH DAY FESTIVAL AND OPEN HOUSE
Highlights Include Free Refreshments, Ribbon Cutting, Tree Giveaway and Landfill Tours
Simi Valley, CA, April 2, 2008 – "It doesn't hurt to play in the dirt" is the slogan the Simi Valley Girl Scout Troop 878 created for Waste Management's Earth Day Festival and Open House, which will take place at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center on Saturday, April 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In recognition of Earth Day, the Festival will feature:
- Tree giveaways and planting demonstrations
- Ribbon-cutting ceremonies for a new Butterfly Habitat
- Landfill tours
- Music
- Complimentary healthy refreshments
- Earth Day arts and crafts activities for kids
"Our Earth Day Festival and Open House is one more way we are reaching out to partner with the community," said Mike Smith, Market Area General Manager for Waste Management of Ventura County. "Our work at the landfill is always about environmental stewardship. This event gives us a chance to highlight the ways we help protect and enhance our local environment."
"The Simi Valley Girl Scout Troop 878 is delighted to be working with Waste Management on this event," said troop leader Sally Coons. "The tree planting demonstration and giveaways have given the girls in our Troop the opportunity to learn about Earth Day and raise environmental awareness in the community."

Waste Management provides Ventura County with recycling, trash hauling and solid waste disposal through G.I. Industries and the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center.
